Montana Dendritic Agate- naturally characterized as having a red iron oxide and black manganese oxide. Montana Agate is characterized as nodules of gray, semi-transparent chalcedony, which can be polished and cut. They are consists of tiny manganese dendrites. Montana agates are found over a broad area along the Yellowstone River valley. In general, agates form when silica in groundwater is deposited in openings in the subsurface. Montana agates were formed as the result of volcanic activity in the Yellowstone Park area millions of years ago.
